5.4 Magnitude Earthquake Shakes Lahore, Islamabad, and Surrounding Areas
LAHORE – A 5.4 magnitude earthquake jolted Lahore, Islamabad, Peshawar, and several other parts of Pakistan on Wednesday, sending waves of fear through the population.
The tremors were widely felt in cities such as Multan, Bhakkar, Rawalpindi, Khanewal, Kamalia, Faisalabad, Mianwali, and surrounding areas. The sudden quake led people to rush out of their homes, offices, and buildings, reciting the Kalma Tayyaba for safety and protection.
According to the National Seismic Monitoring Centre in Islamabad, the earthquake struck at precisely 12:28 PM Pakistan Standard Time. The seismic event registered a magnitude of 5.4 on the Richter scale. The epicenter was located near Dera Ghazi Khan, specifically in the Shadi Wala region of Punjab, with a relatively shallow depth of 10 kilometers.
Though the shaking lasted only a few seconds, it caused widespread panic, and authorities are currently assessing the situation for potential damage or injuries. Local emergency services and disaster management teams were immediately put on high alert to respond to any emergencies. While no significant destruction has been reported so far, minor structural damages in some areas are expected, and aftershocks are possible in the coming hours.
