Cold Mornings: Lahore Schools Adjust Timings Amidst Severe Cold Spell Post Winter Break” As Punjab’s schools gear up to resume after a three-week winter break, the provincial government has made timing adjustments considering the harsh cold weather. Under the revised schedule, schools across Punjab will now commence at 9:30 am. The closing time for boys’ schools is set at 2:30 pm, while girls’ schools will conclude at 2:15 pm.

The decision to delay the school opening time aligns with the government of Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa, which also took similar measures due to severe weather conditions. Sources within the Punjab Schools Education Department state that the announced opening time is final, but discussions regarding the closing time of 2:30 pm are still ongoing.

Prior to the winter break Cold Mornings, school timings in the province were 8:30 am to 2:15 pm. However, the persistent cold weather and widespread fog have prompted the revision of these timings. Expressing concern over the extended school hours for young children, Rana Liaqat Ali, Secretary General of the Punjab Teachers Union, emphasized the lack of heating facilities in schools and the potential discomfort for young students. Ali suggested that the provincial government reconsider reopening schools for early grades during this perilous weather, while agreeing with the proposed timings for higher classes.

As per officials, the new school timetable will be in effect from January 10 to 22, with potential revisions afterward. In response to the severe cold wave, the Punjab Provincial Disaster Management Authority (PDMA) has issued an alert, instructing deputy commissioners across the province to launch campaigns on precautionary measures.

The PDMA emphasized the potential dangers of negligence in cold, fog, and snow, urging citizens to adopt safety measures. The authority also directed district administrations to conduct vigorous campaigns at the local level, providing essential information to the public through various communication channels.
